Unfinished takes ten forms.

They are not ten versions of the same thing, and they are not ten scores. They sit at three levels: where the pattern started, how it operates now, and what it has already cost. Read the ten. Then name yours.

Origin

Where the pattern started. Read as context, never as verdict.

I Inherited Patterns

The finishing habits you learned from people who never finished either.

You recognise the shape of your own stalling. You have seen it before, in someone else. This is a source rather than a result, which is why the diagnostic reports it as context.

H Hidden Shame

The specific thing never said aloud, doing quiet work on every decision you make.

Effort spent so that nobody looks too closely. Achievement that was needed more than it was wanted. This form is reported gently and is never a headline.

Mechanism

How the pattern operates now. This is the part that is actionable.

N Negotiated Dignity

The standard you quietly lowered so that missing it would stop hurting.

Retroactive revision of what you wanted, and tolerance of conditions you would tell a friend to refuse. It reads as realism from the inside.

F Fragmented Identity

A different self for each room, and none of them entirely yours.

People close to you do not know what your days actually contain, or what they cost. The maintenance is invisible and constant.

I Intelligence as Armor

Understanding the problem so thoroughly that the understanding becomes the substitute for moving.

Research continuing well past the point where more of it could change the decision. Preparing feels like progress even though nothing has shipped.

E Exhausting Baggage

Carrying what you were handed, because putting it down would require a conversation.

Guilt keeping commitments alive after intention has left them. Tiredness that sleep does not fix.

D Deferred Living

Later, as a permanent address.

A precondition that keeps moving. A season described as unusual for longer than a year. Your own work receiving whatever time is left.

Cost

What the pattern has taken. This is what changes first when you finish something.

U Unkept Promises

The alarm you set already knowing you will not rise.

The person making the promise has no credibility with the person who has to keep it. Each one compounds, and the interest is paid in self-doubt.

N Neglected Needs

Sleep, the body, the marriage, deferred as though they agreed to wait.

Rest treated as something to be earned. The leftovers going to the relationships that matter most.

S Self-Trust Bankruptcy

Enough broken commitments to yourself that your own word no longer moves you.

Anticipated failure at the moment of commitment. Eventually, no feeling at all when the commitment breaks. That absence is the severe end of this form.

Why ten forms and not ten scores

Several of the ten describe the same thing at different points in time. Unkept Promises and Self-Trust Bankruptcy are the behaviour and its consequence. Inherited Patterns and Hidden Shame describe where a pattern came from rather than how it runs.

So the diagnostic names one mechanism, one cost, and the part of your life where it is loudest. Your result gives that pattern a name, then names which of the ten it becomes in daily life. Origin appears only when it is loud enough to matter, and never as a verdict. Ten parallel numbers would be noise presented as precision.

It also compares you to nobody. There are no percentiles here. What the instrument ranks is which of these forms is loudest in you, this season.

Start with the diagnosis.

The Unfinished Life Diagnostic names the exact pattern keeping your most important work open. Ten statements, about two minutes, no email.
